Imphal, June 06 2025:
The state would have had a popular government by now if the MLAs - who met Governor regarding government formation recently, and claimed the support of 44 legislators - projected consensus leader and staked claim, but they instead joined the flood rescue and relief operations seemingly to distract public from the need for a popular government.
"People should clearly understand the mind-set of the MLAs to distract public from government forma tion - or else the people of the state will continue to suffer," stated Imagi Meira convener Thokchom Sujata.
Demanding response from officials of the state assembly on the memorandum submitted by People's Alliance for Peace and Progress (PPAM) on May 6, Imagi Meira volunteers, led by Sujata tried to meet officials of the assembly secretariat on Friday but were denied entry beyond the main gate of the assembly complex.
The memorandum addressed to Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary had demanded details of the benefits and entitlements enjoyed by MLAs.
Similar attempts to meet assembly officials recently were thwarted by security forces.
Sujata told media persons at the main gate that PPAM, to which Imagi Meira is affiliated, submitted a memorandum to Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary on May 6 demanding disclosure of benefits and entitlements enjoyed by both the sitting and former MLAs.
However, there has been no response from the officials till date and Imagi Meira came to seek response from officials on completion of one month of submission of the memorandum on Friday.
The officials continue to delay disclosure of benefits and entitlements of MLAs, she alleged and stressed the need for investigation to find out if the state assembly functions as per the law.
Proper functioning of the state assembly is very much required to bring back peace and normalcy in the state, she added.
