Imphal, July 05 2025:
Stating that preparations have been completed for the observance of the 10th death anniversary of Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood, who sacrificed his life during the movement for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) System in Manipur, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has appealed to the public to join the observance on July 8 and pay tribute to Sapam Robinhood.
Speaking to media persons at the memorial site of Lamjing Meira Robinhood located at Awa Ching on Saturday, JCILPS convenor Md Kheiruddin Shah Moijingmayum stated that Sapam Robinhood laid down his life during the public agitation for the implementation of ILP system in Manipur.
He said that many people, including students, were injured during the course of the movement.
As a result of the collective efforts, the ILP system was eventually implemented in the state.
However, he emphasised that the system remains incomplete and strongly criticised the Manipur ILP Rules, 2019, issued by the state government.
He further pointed out that the base year used in the rule is 1961, whereas the committee has been demanding 1951 as the base year.
Memorandums have been submitted to the authorities concerned in this regard, but no positive response has been received yet, he lamented.
Md Kheiruddin Shah also urged the government to ensure proper identification and detection of illegal immigrants during the ongoing Aadhaar card registration process.
He appealed to local clubs, Meira Paibis, and individuals to actively assist in identifying illegal immigrants within their respective areas.
JCILPS Women Wing convenor Keisham ongbi Kumudini said that the sacrifice of Sapam Robinhood was for all the indigenous people of the land.
She urged the public to take part in the observance and further appealed to everyone to light a candle in his memory in the evening.
