Assam Rifles launches vocational carpentry and artisan training in Kamjong

Kamjong, January 30 2026: Assam Rifles inaugurated a Vocational Carpentry and Artisan Training Programme at Humine Thana village, Kamjong District, on January 30, 2026, under Operation Sadbhavana.

According to IGAR (South), the month-long initiative is designed to foster skill development and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for local youth in this remote region.

A total of 25 participants have enrolled in the programme, which seeks to empower unemployed and underprivileged youth by equipping fhem with market-relevant carpentry and artisan skills.

Training is being delivered daily by skilled carpenters and experienced artisans, combining theoretical instruction with practical exposure to craftsmanship and creativity.

The structured module emphasises technical competence, innovation and entrepreneurship, enabling participants to confidently pursue employment or establish independent ventures.

Humine Thana, located in the interior of Kamjong District, has limited livelihood opportunities, making such training particularly impactful.

By learning to produce furniture, household items and artisan crafts, participants will be able to generate income through local markets and reduce dependence on seasonal labour.

The programme also encourages self-reliance and helps curb migration in search of jobs, offering youth a chance to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities.

Officials and troops of Assam Rifles highlighted that Operation Sadbhavana continues to focus on welfare-driven initiatives across healthcare, education and skill development.

The training reflects Assam Rifles' commitment to strengthening bonds with local communities while contributing to empowerment, socio-economic development and nation-building.
