Imphal, July 25 2025:
People from other states and countries seeking employment opportunities in Manipur need to understand and learn the culture of the state, asserted Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) vice chancellor (VC) Prof W Chandbabu.
The VC stated this during a two-day international conference on "Critical Humanities - Language, Culture and indigeneity", organised by DMU's Dhanamanjuri College of Arts, inaugurated at the College auditorium) on Friday.
Speaking as chief guest, Prof Chandbabu noted that the world today is.
like a global village and work place culture developing into a single workplace style owing to logistic arrangement and emergence of virtual workplace.
"If one works properly in their respective organisations, he/she needs to understand and learn the local culture, language, food habits, ethical standard, attitude of the natives and law and order situation," he stressed.
The VC continued that the same logic applies to the people from Manipur who are working outside the state, while expressing belief that the conference would help spread awareness on the same to students, CSOs and intellectuals.
The conference was also attended by Hindi University, West Bengal VC Prof Nandini Sahu; Tripura University Department of English Prof Somdev Banik; Bhasha Bhav-na Institute of Language, Literature and Culture, Viswa Bharti Shantiniketan, West Bengal Prof Tapu Bishwas; Department of Language Education and School of Artificial Intelligence, North Chiangmai University, Thailand founder and head Dr Rohit Kumar Chandrakumar Kalasakar as guests of honour; and DM College of Arts principal Prof S Lanchenba Meetei as president.
