Moreh, September 22 2024:
Since outbreak of the communal violence on May 3 last year, different-communities, barring one, are on the lookout for an opportunity to leave Moreh border town, resulting in serious derailment of all commercial activities and transactions.
Speaking to this daily, one Leishangthem Tameng Leima, currently taking shelter at the Wangjing Lamding Higher Secondary School relief camp, opined that among other places affected by the violence, Moreh, which was once regarded as a vibrant business hub along the Indo-Myanmar border, has now become deserted.
Recalling that prominent political figures and senior officials from the central government often likened Moreh to a "mini India" due to different communities from within and outside the state settling in peace and harmony, she contended that in-spite of various minority communities in Moreh repugnant with activities of Kuki narco-terrorists, many prefer silence fearing reprisal.
Expressing strong resentment that both state and central governments are unable to effectively tackle with Kuki armed groups in-spite, of the threat posed by these elements to the territorial integrity of Manipur, Tameng Leima asserted that Kuki community leaders have been maliciously blaming the Meeteis of committing atrocities against innocent Kukis, in pursuit of their ultimate goal creating a separate state exclusively for the Kukis.
In-spite of being fully aware about involvement of foreign hands in the ongoing crisis and threat posed to national security, the central government seems to lack the commitment to ensure security of the bonafide citizens, thereby deepening suspicion of a nefarious ploy to balkanise Manipur, she added.
