Sit-ins protest bomb threat, monetary demand

Imphal, June 21 2024: Denouncing the act of placing hand grenade at the entrance of Sir Jotin Neet Chemistry Coaching Centre, Keishampat Laisom Leirak Machin on Thursday morning, locals and students of the coaching centre staged a sit-in protest on Friday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest staged at the centre's gate, a female student pointed out that as many students including from relief centres are attending class in pursuit of their academic goals, such threat and intimidation are uncalled for.

She also appealed to all concerned against repeating such act in future.

Placards inscribed 'We condemn bomb threat' and 'Don't threaten students' among others were used during the sit-in.

On the other-hand, sit-in protest was staged by vendors of Khongjom Keithel, Thoubal district on Thursday to denounce unbearable monetary demands by various organisations.

During the protest organised by Khongjom Bazar Shop Owners' Association, all the vendors ceased business for the day.

Speaking to media persons, one Laishram Tombit on contended that the vendors of Khongjom Keithel have been extending all possible assistance in cash and kind ever since the ethnic conflict broke out on May 3, 2023 .

While affirming that the business outlets would continue to contribute their mite to any organisation in need, she called upon all concerned not to make demand beyond the capacity of the vendors.
