RIMS conducts plastic-free campus drive

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS); Imphal, on Sunday organised a plastic-free campus drive under the Swachhta Action Plan 2025-26 .
Led by RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, the campaign covered all major areas of the Campus, including approach roads, the main gate, the hospital complex, and hostels.
During the drive, RIMS noted that the main road between Gate No 1 and 2 was heavily littered with gutkha packets, cigarette butts, and plastic bottles due to unauthorised street vendors, two-wheeler parking, and an auto-stand.
The institute has appealed to state authorities to relocate parking stands and prohibit unauthorised street vendors to ensure cleanliness and reduce traffic congestion on the approach road to RIMS Hospital.

RIMS reiterated the ban on tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions, as per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare's Guidelines for Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) .
The institute urged vendors to stop selling tobacco products in and around its premises.
The RIMS director urged students, faculty, staff, and the community to take collective responsibility for a plastic-free environment, emphasising RIMS's goal to become a model institution for eco-friendly practices.
The campaign witnessed active participation from the medical superintendent, deputy director (admin), dean (academics), principal of nursing, nodal officer (sap 2024-25/kaya kalp), heads of departments, officials, staff, the Resident Doctors' Association (RDA), RIMSSU, CRED, and MSS .
