Farmers seek solution to artificial flooding

Thoubal, July 13 2025: Farmlands of Khangabok Part 3 including Kiyam, Keipha, Bihu, Salam, Sagai Makhong, Lalikhong, Khongnangmacha Makha 'loukol', etc., have been flooded due to overflow adjoining water bodies namely Kharungpat and Ikop Pat.

Appealing to MLAs of Wangjing Tentha and Khangabok assembly constituencies, on behalf of the affected farmers, to address flooding occurring every year, Khangabok Part 3 Gram Panchayat caretaker pradhan Moirangthem Mahen told media persons that for two consecutive years, overflow of water through 400/500 metre stretch in between Wangjing Tentha and Khangabok ACs, which is a component of the Arong river ring bund, has been inundating farmlands in Khangabok area.

Speaking during inspection of the affected farmlands, of Kiyam Loukol on Sunday in the presence of members of Universal Farmers Organisation (UFO), Khangabok, Mahen informed that amid farmers pooling in money to raise height of the ring bund, about 1000 'Pari' of agricultural land is presently under water.

Sharing collective opinion of the farmers that raising height of the ring bund by 3-4 feet might help in checking perennial flooding, Mahen also observed that as the said area falls in between Wangjing Tentha and Khangabok ACs the problem is yet to draw attention of the legislators concerned.

On the other hand, UFO; Khangabok members L Ke-sho and Moirangthem Kunjarani lamented that in-spite their toil in the field they are unable to reap any benefit from farming due to flooding and as such appealed to the MLAs concerned to look into the matter.
