Imphal, July 10 2025:
One metric ton of Manipur's organic Queen pineapples from the Organic Outlet of the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, near Sanjenthong, was on Thursday airlifted to the Organic Outlet HAAT, INA, in Delhi.
Mangal Organic FPC, with the support of the department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, took the lead in airlifting the much-sought-after Queen pineapple - an organic variety native to the state - to Delhi.
Speaking to reporters during the flag-off ceremony, Horticulture & Soil Conservation commissioner Thaituilung Panmei noted the initiative marked an important milestone for the state's pineapple farmers and economy.
He said that even the export of a small quantity of the organic pineapple is a positive step forward.
He added that Queen pineapples are well-regarded across India and even abroad.
However, despite high demand, transportation of the fruit outside the state remains a major challenge due to poor road conditions and the prevailing law and order situation.
"Recently, there were plans to export around 30 metric tonnes of organic pineapples to Dubai, but the effort was halted because of the ongoing crisis and poor road infrastructure," Panmei stated.
Nonetheless, he expressed hope, stating that many farmers are now showing interest in horticulture sector, following the example set by Mangal Organic Producer Company.
He said that the arrival of train services in the state could be a game-changer, enabling not just organic pineapples but a wide range of horticultural products to be transported more easily to other parts of the country and beyond.
Improved connectivity, he added, would significantly boost the state's economy and improve the livelihoods of local farmers.
The function was also attended by Horticulture & Soil Conservation director K Debadutta, among others.
