Call for tax literacy, cooperation echoed at GST Day

The 8th GST Day Celebration was jointly organised by CGST, Imphal Commissionerate and the Department of State Taxes on Tuesday at GST Bhawan, Thambalkhong, Imphal East.
The event was attended by students, taxpayers and senior officials from both Central and state tax departments.
Commissioner (taxes) Mercina R Panmei attended the event as chief guest, while additional commissioner of CGST Imphal Commissionerate L Prabhunanda was the guest of honour.
According to a press release from CGST Imphal Commissionerate, Mercina R Panmei addressed the gathering, emphasising the need for greater cooperation and coordination between central and state tax officials to ensure efficient tax administration and service delivery.
She also stressed the importance of tax literacy among youth and lauded the enthusiasm shown by students who participated in the quiz competition held in the run-up to the celebration.
In his speech, L Prabhunanda said that GST as a major tax reform that has simplified the country's indirect taxation system, while noting that Manipur is the most GST-dependent state in India, with the tax accounting for 78 per cent of the state's revenue receipts.
Under the jurisdiction of CGST Commissionerate Imphal, Shree Manikumar Jewellers, NIELIT, Manipur, and Punya Automotive Private Limited were felicitated for their contributions to the nation's revenue.
Under the jurisdiction of the Department of State Taxes, Herbalife International India Private Limited, Nestle India Ltd, and Apex Traders were honoured.
The event also featured a prize distribution ceremony for winners of the written quiz competition organised in the run-up to the celebration.
