Imphal, October 05 2011:
Taking into account the attitude of the Chief Minister of Manipur on the advise of the Union Home Minister regarding the demand of Sadar Hills, the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) today in a letter to the Union Home Minister, Chidambaram rejected his appeal to withdraw the ongoing economic blockade.
It informed the Union Home Minister that the Committee on Re-organisation of Administrative and Police Boundaries was formed by the state government in total disregard of the aspirations of the people of Sadar Hills.
Moreover three such similar committees were constituted by the state government in the past which did not serve any purpose.
It asserted that administrative boundaries in the state have never been an issue or under question during the last 39 years.
However, it has become an issue out of nowhere when the demand of Sadar Hills district is raised.
It also asserted that re-organisation of district boundaries in Manipur shall never be politically practicable stating that it is the bond of unity among the tribals of the state.
"Should the ongoing economic blockade unto Districthood enforced by SHDDC be lifted, it should be done only at the peril of losing inauguration at Sadar Hills as a full-fledged district in the cold storage of the state politics", it stated while adding "Economic blockade and other forms of agitation could not be compromised with the pressure from the state government" .
