Source: Chronicle News Service / DIPR

Imphal, March 30 2022: Chief Minister N Biren on Wednesday flagged off Imphal-Mao Manipur State Transport (MST) Bus Service from MST Complex, Moirangkhom.

The bus service was launched with the objective of pro viding a safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable public transport service.

Speaking on the occasion, Biren pointed out that the bus service has been launched with the objective of maintaining close relationships among people living in border villages and valley areas.

It is of utmost importance as better transportation facilities could strengthen emotional connections among people of hill and valley districts.

He recalled that the Manipur State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), which had remained non functional for a long time, was revived as Manipur State Transport (MST) by the BJP led government shortly after its formation in 2017 .

Stating that around 28 buses were operating in the state providing transportation service, the CM said that the government is in the process of procuring another three buses.

He continued that the state government is planning to resume inter state bus service between Imphal and Dimapur by making the bus station at Dimapur functional considering the importance of operating bus service till Dimapur for the people of Mao.

The CM mentioned that regular bus service between Imphal and Mao would facilitate the people of Mao in marketing their local products and enhancing the economic activities of the state in general.

A temporary Mao market will be opened soon followed by a permanent market area.

He also stated that the operation of bus service would increase after reviewing the demand.

In his address, Mao MLA Losii Dikho said that the current government led by CM Biren has always been successful in addressing issues put up by the people.

People from different communities have started working together for the development of the state under his leadership.

Around 1280 students from Mao area are studying in Imphal, which is a good sign.

Economic activities would be enhanced with the launch of the bus services, he said and lauded the CM for his stand on the land dispute with Nagaland.

Additional chief secretary (transport) P Vaiphei said that the bus plying from Imphal to Mao will depart from Nagamapal, RIMS Road corner near Kasturi Thong (Bridge) at 7 am and 2:30 pm on every working day while the bus coming from Mao will depart from Mao bus parking at 6 am and 2:30 pm.

The bus service will not only take care of the daily marketing facility for Mao farmers but also provide them easy access to better healthcare facilities in Imphal, he added.

Chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, director (transport) Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam and presidents of Naga People's Organisation, Mao Council and Mao Students' Union also attended the programme among Others.

NPO, Mao Council and Mao Students' Union expressed gratitude to the chief minister for launching the bus service and also assured of extending their support and cooperation in operation of the bus service.

They also expressed their belief that the relationship between hills and valley will improve further through such measures.

Later, the CM visited Chingmeirong, eastern side of DM College, and took stock of the location where a temporary Mao Market is to be set up.
