Manipuri AC demand committee formed in Silchar

A new organisation christened Manipuri Autonomous Council Demand Coordination Committee, Assam was formed in Silchar on May 24, with the primary objective of advocating for the creation of a Manipuri Autonomous Council in the neighbouring state.
The committee was constituted during a joint meeting of representatives from several prominent Manipuri civil society organisations (CSOs), held at Keisam Luhong Shanglen in Rongpur, Silchar.
The meeting was jointly convened by Manipuri National Council (MNC), Manipuri Youth Front of Assam (MYFA) and Young Manipuri Council, Assam (YMCA) with the participation of various Manipuri organisations from across Assam.
Social activist Kangabam Shantee Kumar Singh presid ed over the meeting, which unanimously resolved to form the coordination committee to spearhead the demand for an autonomous council for the Manipuri community in Assam.
Kangabam Shantee was appointed as the chairman of the newly formed committee which has advocate Ngangom Romakanta as working chairman, and Keisam Kamdev, Aruna Devi, Beni Mishra, Sangita Begum, Thangjam Brojen and Romen Luwang as vice-chairpersons.
Kshetrimayum Singhajit was appointed as the convenor with Seram Herajit, Dr Raju Khumujam and Konthoujam Sunita named co-convenors, while Okram Lakhikanta and Roshan Erom were designated as joint convenors.
Athokpam Niten was named the treasurer, with Keisam Anand as the joint treasurer.
