Yumnam Deben, ASI of Assembly Security Staff, was taken into 5 more days in police custody remand in connection with hand grenade inside Manipur State Assembly complex on November 16.Yumnam Deben (56) s/o Birchandra of Nambol Maibam Chingamang, was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, along with a prayer for further 5 more days remand in police custody, till November 26.On the other hand, the counsel of the accused, filed a remand objection and bail application before the Court on medical ground.
The IO of the case, through the APP, submitted that a case was registered in connection with the hand grenade attack inside Manipur Assembly complex on November 16, near gate number 2 (near the sentry post) which injured a BSF personnel and two other security staff of the Assembly.
The accused was arrested the next day, November 17, and on preliminary interrogation, he admitted that he frequently made contact with UNLF members about some works.
He also disclosed that he had received a sum of Rs 1,31,000 from Self Style Major Umakanta of UNLF.
The IO further submitted that further interrogation is needed to uncover more facts and evidences as well as to arrest members of the organization and prayed for remanding the accused to further five more days in police custody.
Satisfied with the prayer, the Court remanded the accused into police custody till November 26.The Court also instructed the authority concerned to do a medical checkup of the accused during the police custody period and explained that the bail application filed by the counsel of accused will be consider when the accused is produced before the Court again.
