Marathon cautions public on HIV/AIDS

Imphal, September 22 2024:
Manipur Red Run-2, a 10 km marathon, organised by Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) under the aegis of National AIDS Control Society (NACO) was held on Sunday with MACS project director Haobam Rosita flagging off the run from Kangla Western Gate.
The Run held to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS among the public especially youth was participated by 210 runners including transgenders aged 17 to 25 years.
The run ended at Biramangol College, Sawombung.
Speaking on the occasion, H Rosita informed that the run was aimed at involving the public as well as youth in preventing spread of HIV/AIDS and ways to protect oneself from the dreaded disease.
On the other hand, MACS official Dr Dipali advised pregnant women to undergo HIV testing to prevent mother-to-child transmission of the disease, along with assuaging that even the test turns positive routine and timely medication could prevent infection of the child.
Informing that Manipur is still ranked third in number of HIV/AIDS cases in India regardless of state recording steep decline in HIV/AIDS cases in recent years, the MACS official further revealed that 418 HIV/AIDS cases were reported in the state from April till August this year.
