Imphal, November 18 2024:
Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) and Jiribam Students' Forum on Monday organised a mass protest against the brutal killing of six civilians including three children by Kuki militants, at the main gate of Manipur University.
During the protest, held in the presence of members of the victims' family, the protestors set on fire effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.
Speaking on the sidelines, MUSU president Nongthombam Suraj condemned and expressed dismay over silence of the central and state governments on abduction and inhuman killing of six civilians including three children by Kuki militants in Jiribam.
He informed that various resolutions were adopted during the meeting including revocation of AFSPA and withdrawal of the internet ban order in the interests of the students, failing which mobile towers will be targeted.
Jiribam Students' Forum president N Chinglemba said that students can no longer be expected to continue holding the pen when innocent civilians are targeted.
As such, the protests will continue until suitable action is taken against the Kuki militants, he stated, while strongly condemning the incident in Jiribam, where one student was shot dead and another left injured by SSP Nectar Sanjenbam on Sunday night.
