Imphal, August 17 2025:
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam on Sunday said that building a good society requires producing capable youth and creating an environment where they are encouraged to grow into educated and disciplined individuals.
Speaking as chief guest at the 14th meritorious students' felicitation and encouragement programme organised by Social Development Organisation, Karam at Karam Lai Haraobung community hall, Shyam called upon the students to focus on education, and emphasised that clubs and elders should play their role in producing educated and responsible youth.
He stressed the need for academic activities in the locality, stating that awareness among parents on where their children may falter and the responsibilities of families, clubs, and the community would be crucial in shaping capable generations.

When there are healthy and non-addicted youths in the society, the locality or village will naturally develop, expressed the MLA, adding that grooming cultured children should be a collective responsibility.
Shyam also underlined that success of a person is not measured by securing government jobs alone but by a matured mind and sharing social responsibilities.
If one is well-educated but does not care for own parents or contribute to the development of the locality, there is no meaning of being educated, he maintained.
He cautioned against neglecting the community in pursuit of personal success, noting that a person's worth is diminished if they spend their time drinking and gambling while failing to care for their families.
Even after retiring from politics, Shyam said he would continue to support initiatives that encourage good students and strengthen the community.
The programme was attended by club president Paonam Tomba, Manipur Legislative Assembly secretariat's former secretary Karam Meghajit, CSIR-NEIST chief scientist Dr Huidrom Birkumar Singh, senior assistant director of the Ministry of Textiles Mutum Sanjeevkumar, medical officer Dr Paonam Umakanta, Lilong SDC Laishram Sineshwor Meitei, Karam Hotel & Resort proprietor Urikkhinbam Kennedy, and social worker Paonam Bijoy.
