Indigenous cultural exchange festival concludes

The two-day Manipur Indigenous People's Cultural Exchange Festival-2024, organised by the Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM) under the aegis of the state tourism department under the theme 'Manipur United by Diversity', concluded on Saturday at Chadong village in Kamjong district.
Power minister Th Biswajit Singh, who attended the closing ceremony of the festival as chief guest, said that the government is for the people and always strives to translate their aspirations into action.
However, he emphasised that it would be better for the people to consider the future of society and raise demands accordingly.
He also stated that future generations should think about how to save the nation with a clear understanding of its historical background.
While acknowledging that the government takes steps for societal betterment, he admitted, it often makes mistakes, and called upon the public to avoid giving negative criticism.
According to the minister, there are 34-35 recognised communities in Manipur, each with its own unique culture, tradition, and lifestyle.
Organising the Indigenous People's Cultural Exchange Festival at such a critical time would help foster unity among, communities.
He described Manipur as a "mini-India'" united by diversity and expressed his gratitude to Almighty God for bringing all the communities together at the festival, which serves as a platform for sharing and exchanging cultures.
"This festival is new but has its own unique charm.
Although many could not participate, it is fortunate that such events are being aired on wider platforms," he said.
The minister also suggested that such cultural exchange festivals should be promoted not only in Kamjong district but also in other districts to showcase their unique features.
As part of the festival, a souvenir titled 'The Manipur Indigenous People's Cultural Exchange Festival 2024' was also released.
The closing ceremony of the festival was also attended by Lamlai MLA Kh Ibomcha, social activist and IPFM president Ashang Kasar, high-ranking officials, village heads, and local villagers.
The programme began with a welcome song performed by local women, followed by various cultural dances and folk songs performed by different tribes of Manipur.
The festivities continued with special events like Meet the Stars and a musical concert.
