Imphal, May 13 2025:
Khaidem Thoithoi, a workshop owner specializing in brick-making machines, has developed a wood-cutting machine that can cut about six maunds of wood in just two hours.
Thoithoi (47) is a resident of Khurai Thongam Leikai and he runs a Brick Machine Small Industry.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, he said he started making machines in 1997 .
Saying that he had sold around 70 brickmaking machines to brick firms, Thoithoi added that he decided to create a wood-cutting machine that could cut wood faster after witnessing labourers struggle to cut wood for brick-making using traditional tools.
He said he began making the machine about four years ago, using components like a hydraulic pump, hydraulic jack, and a 5 Horsepower motor.
The machine, priced at Rs 1.30 lakh, can operate on both electricity and fuel, Thoithoi said and added that he has sold 20 of his self-designed woodcutting machines, including eight in Kamjong and Phungyar.
Meanwhile, Laishram Amujao, a worker at a Pangei Haotal brick firm, said cutting a single timber with an axe, wedge, and hammer takes over an hour.
Saying that cutting wood with an axe is dangerous and labor-intensive, he added that the wood-cutting machine designed by Thoithoi has brought relief to workers like him.
He said the machine, purchased by his proprietor from Thoithoi, can cut about six maunds of wood in two hours.
It requires two people to operate: one to activate the gear and another to place the wood, he said.
