Imphal, August 11 2025:
Four more police personnel have been suspended for alleged involvement in a drug-related case, in addition to the earlier suspension of Imphal East commando unit officer-in-charge Ningthoujam Devdas.
The suspended officers are sub-inspector B Debson Singh of Imphal East commando, constable Tarique Aziz of Imphal East commando, head constable Md Rakib of Thoubal commando, and Jemadar Md Amin Shah of the 7th 1RB, Khabeisoi.
According to officials, the five personnel released drug peddlers apprehended along NH-102 (Indo-Myanmar road) after accepting a bribe of Rs 6 lakh, while retaining the seized drugs.
Police records show Debson was arrested in 2013 for transporting pseudoephedrine tablets worth over Rs 3 crore to Moreh in Tengnoupal district.
The state government later withdrew the chief minister's gallantry award conferred on him following demands from a student organisation, and he was suspended at that time.
An order issued on Friday by Imphal East SP Rakesh Balwal stated that Debson had been suspended for grave misconduct and dereliction of duty with immediate effect.
On Sunday, SP Balwal issued a separate order confirming the immediate suspension of constable Aziz under the same rule, while Thoubal district police Addl SP N Suraj Singh issued a separate order suspending head constable Rakib.
The suspension of Jemadar Md Amin Shah was also carried out under similar charges, officials said.
