Health director assures upgrade of Kakching CHC

Kakching, July 10 2025:
A team of Directorate of Health Services (DHS) led by director Dr Chambo Gonmei visited the Community Health Centre (CHC)/District Hospital, Kakching on Thursday to assess feasibility of building a new operation theatre and providing speciality healthcare services.
The inspection team also comprising health services joint director (planning) Dr Y Premchandra Singh, deputy director (planning) Dr Usham Jugindro Singh, Bishnupur District Hospital general surgeon Dr Tongbram Shyamananda, Thoubal District Hospital anaesthetist Dr Lisham Rojenku-mar, Kakching chief medical officer Dr Thaodem Rajen and staffers reviewed ongoing process for setting up an operation theatre at the Kakching CHC at the earliest.
During the visit, Dr Cham-bo assured establishment of a modern operation theatre at the old building of the CHC, and requisition of requisite manpower and equipment for the proposed OT within short notice.
Briefing the director, CMO Dr Rajen informed that approval for upgrade of the CHC to a district hospital was given by the state cabinet in 2016 but till date the CHC is bereft of adequate manpower and basic infrastructure befitting a CHC .
In response, Dr Chambo Gonmei assured to provide adequate manpower including specialist doctors and infrastructure needed for a district hospital.
On Dr Rajen's proposal for conduct of physical assessment camp for persons with disabilities (PwDs) at least once a month at the CHC to enable the PwDs possess disability certificates and avail benefits from various government schemes, the director assured to take up necessary action.
The joint inspection team also met with Kakching deputy commissioner Rohit Anand at his office during the visit.
It can be mentioned that the inspection was carried out after the DC and the CMO pressed the chief secretary regarding inadequacies at the CHC .
