Imphal, July 01 2025:
Wangoi MLA Kh Loken on Tuesday distributed National Food Security Act (NFSA) ration cards to 1,527 families in his constituency who, he claimed, had been denied benefits under the scheme for nearly seven years.
At the distribution function held at his residence at Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangkhong, MLA Loken said that after gettingelected, he had received numerous complaints from residents who were not receiving Public Distribution System (PDS) benefits despite being eligible.
It was unfortunate that bias had crept into such public welfare schemes and that some families were excluded unfairly.
He said that the distributed ration cards would now benefit 5,506 individuals.
Of the total, 263 are Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards and 1,264 Priority Household (PHH) cards.
Although rice allocations for these families had been arriving from the Centre regularly, they had not received the benefits due to the absence of valid ration cards, he added.
Loken said that after receiving the complaints, he made a personal commitment to ensure that all eligible families in his constituency received their entitlements, regardless of their political affiliations.
He urged existing cardholders who have not yet registered all their family members to complete their KYC updates and include any missing names.
He also pledged to ensure that people in Wangoi benefit from various government schemes and that development works continue.
While acknowledging that he could not fulfil all his responsibilities due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing ethnic conflict shortly after his election, he said that efforts are being made to address public needs.
Among the works completed during this period, he highlighted the construction of 17 open gyms in the constituency as one of his key achievements.
