Imphal, March 01 2025:
Diversion of traffic through Dhana-manjuri (DM) University campus has "disturbed" the academic atmosphere.
Vehicles have been diverted into the campus due to reconstruction of a culvert on Naga Nala.
The construction of the culvert is being done by the Public Works Department for better flow and control of water during rainy season.
Sources said the construction is expected to be completed before the rainy season.
Due to the ongoing construction work, vehicles have been diverted inside the DMU campus--Thangmeiband side gate to JNMDA gate.
There is a heavy flow of traffic inside the campus and it has disturbed the university teachers and students' academic activities.
Dust and sound of traffic have disturbed the academic atmosphere besides causing road safety concerns, said students.
The road inside the campus is single lane and filled with potholes.
With vehicles being diverted inside the campus, there is huge traffic daily.
There is hardly any space for students to walk, they said.
Large and heavy vehicles too have been diverted inside the campus and traffic jam is a daily occurrence, thereby raising safety concerns.
The risk of accidents occurring and hurting university students has risen, they added.
The authorities concerned should look into the concerns of the university students and not use the campus road as a diversion route, said the students.
The authorities concerned should make the campus safe and conducive for learning, and also improve the road, they added.
The students also appealed to the PWD for early completion of the culvert being constructed on the Naga Nala.
