CPI mourns demise of Irom Achoubi

Imphal, January 30 2026:
Irom Achoubi, a stalwart champion of women's rights and social equality, passed away at 82, leaving behind a legacy of courage and conviction.
Irom Achoubi breathed her last on Thursday morning at her residence in Khabi Awang due to an illness, said a release.
Leaders from the Konthoujam Local Council of the CPI, including veteran Okram Ibotombi, former local secretary Dr Khomdram Thoiba.
Khabi branch secretary Kh Debeswar, and several leaders from Nupi Marup, visited her home to pay their respects and offer condolences to the bereaved family.
A dedicated CPI member since 1973, she fought tirelessly against oppression and violence faced by women.
She served as president of the women's wing for Konthoujam AC and led numerous movements for social change.
Her commitment remained unshaken even in illness, inspiring many.
The community bid farewell with flowers and two minutes of silence, honouring a life devoted to the cause.
