Assam Rifles distributes sewing machines in Chandel to empower border village women

Imphal, October 26 2025:
Under Operation Sadbhavana, Assam Rifles distributed 16 foot pedal sewing machines across New Samtal, Yangnomphai and Aivomjang villages in Chandel District, Manipur.
According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), the initiative, conducted by Assam Rifles was aimed at fostering self-reliance and economic opportunity for women in remote border communities.
Responding to local requests for livelihood support, Assam Rifles selected New Samtal as a focal point for the project.
The sewing machines will enable women to acquire household tailoring skills and pursue income-generating activities from home, contributing to long-term empowerment and creative engagement.
The handing-over ceremony was attended by 67 villagers, including representatives from the Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR), Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) and the Youth President of New Samtal.
Village council members from all three locations were present, reflecting strong community endorsement.
With 15 personnel on ground, Assam Rifles ensured the event was organised with precision and warmth.
The initiative was warmly received, with villagers expressing deep appreciation for the timely support.
