Office of Zogam Today attacked; MJHU condemns

Imphal, March 19 2025: Core Committee of the Editors of Churachandpur District Based Daily Newspapers has strongly condemned the destruction of the signboard of the Zogam Today newspaper amidst the prevailing unrest situation in the district and obstruction caused to some 'agents' of Eimi Times newspaper.

In a joint statement, Nisin Thuhiltu editor Vicky Suantak, Manipur Express editor L Thangsuanmung, Hmasawnna Thar editor Lalmalsawm Sellate, Zogam Today editor S Nengkhanlun, Lamka Times editor Thangchinlian Langel and Eimi Times editor Henkholun Doungel demanded formal apology from the perpetrators and appealed to all individuals to refrain from harassing or disrupting media houses, hawkers, and reporters who also discharging duties to disseminate information.

"We stand in solidarity with the Zogam Today newspaper team and urge authorities to ensure the safety and security of media personnel," said the editors and further appealed to all concerned to uphold the principles of a free press and allow media professionals to work without fear or intimidation.

Meanwhile, Manipur Hills Journalists' Union (MHJU) has condemned the vandalism committed against Zogam Today, a daily newspaper, by unidentified miscreants amidst the volatile situation in Churachandpur district, and urged the government to initiate necessary action against the perpetrators.

"While extending solidarity to Zogam Today and media persons in Churachandpur district, the MHJU denounces any form of violence targeting journalists' fraternity who are working at odd hours and in difficult situations to provide information to the general public," said MHJU president Peter Adani in a statement on Wednesday.

MHJU appealed to all communities involved in the present crisis in Manipur to abstain from further violence to ensure restoration of peace and normalcy at the earliest, adding that it re-endorsed any movements/initiatives that aim to resolve the present conflict.

The Union also appealed to all individuals or groups to immediately cease any acts of intimidating and harassing media houses, hawkers and reporters while performing their duty.

"We appeal to all to protect the freedom of press and media professionals who are tirelessly working for the welfare of the people," the statement added.
