Bishnupur, June 12 2025:
In a vehement display of dissent, meira paibi activists from Ngaikhong Khunou, Keinou, Yumnam Khunou, Irengbam, Oinam, Heinoubok, Leimaram and Waroiching jointly staged a sit-in protest at Oinam Bazar on Thursday, denouncing the recent arrest of village volunteers and Arambai Tenggol members, ignoring their vital role in protecting the state amid the ongoing unrest.
The demonstrators voiced strong opposition to the existence of political parties which, they claimed, are incapable of maintaining peace and governance in the state.
Addressing the protesters, meira paibi activist N Surmila of Leimaram, criticised the current crop of elected representatives, stating, "The crisis in Manipur is the direct result of MLAs who lack commitment to the welfare of the people and love for the motherland".
She alleged that the MLAs have failed to provide proper leadership, while cautioning that the public might turn their ire on the legislators.
"It is the youth and students who have risen to safeguard the integrity of the state because the government has failed in its duty to protect the people and ensure peace," she noted.
Surmila also dispraised the Governor, accusing him of lacking understanding of the state's history and warned against efforts intended to divide or dismantle the state.
The double-faced approach of the government is threatening the unity of Manipur's diverse communities, she said.
