Imphal, May 05 2026:
Assam Rifles on Tuesday organised a series of yoga awareness programmes across Manipur in preparation for the 12th International Day of Yoga.
According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the events were conducted at COB Nambol, Wanglee, Sorde, Gamnoum, and at Battalion Headquarters ARPS Shangshak, drawing enthusiastic participation from both youth and local residents.
At COB Nambol, 52 children and young adults aged between 10 and 24 years from the neighbouring villages of Oinam, Keinou and Nambol joined sessions that explored the origins, forms and benefits of yoga.
Guided practice of asanas such as Surya Namaskar left participants feeling calm, focused and energised, with some expressing interest in pursuing yoga as a career.
The initiative extended across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, where nearly 200 individuals including troops, students and villagers took part in yoga sessions at multiple Company Operating Bases and ARPS Shangshak.
At Shangshak alone, 60 students participated, while around 50 residents attended sessions at the COBs.
Demonstrations of yoga postures, breathing techniques and advice on integrating yoga into daily routines were well received, underscoring the role of yoga in promoting fitness, discipline and mental well-being.
The collective participation across Nambol, Ukhrul and Kamjong reflected the growing awareness of yoga's importance in fostering a healthy lifestyle and strengthening community bonds ahead of the International Day of Yoga celebrations.
