Bishnupur, July 30 2026: A Bhoomi Puja ceremony for the establishment of the first girls' Sainik School in Manipur under the Chinmaya Mission was held yesterday at Thamnapokpi under Moi-rang sub-division, Bishnupur district.

Swami Mritananda, head of the Chinmaya Mission Chennai and North East Bharat graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The programme was also attended by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam; MLA Thongam Shanti; Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam; SP Ksh Ravikumar Singh and Moirangthem Asnikumar Singh.

Addressing the gathering, Swami Mritananda expressed happiness that the Bhoomi Puja was being performed on such an auspicious day.

He said that Chinmaya Mission is guided by the vision of bringing "maximum happiness to the maximum number of people for the maximum period of time" .

Reiterating the teachings of Swami Chinmayananda, he stated that "service to the country is service to the Lord" and stressed that Nation-building begins through education.

Highlighting the significance of the proposed insti- tution, Swami Mritananda observed that the location of the school, situated near the historic INA Headquarters at Moirang, would serve as a fitting tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and the legacy of India's freedom movement.

He expressed confidence that the school would provide quality education, leadership training and holistic development to young girls from across the State, enabling them to excel in academics and various other fields.

Speaking at the occasion, Govindas Konthoujam described the establishment of the State's first girls' Sainik School as a landmark initiative in the fields of education and women empowerment.

Referring to the recent achievement of Saikhom Mirabai Chanu at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Minister said her success has become a source of inspiration for the youth, especially young girls across the State.

He expressed hope that the girls' Sainik School would encourage more girls to dream big, realise their potential and achieve excellence in their chosen fields.

The Home Minister also appealed to the public to extend their wholehearted support to the initiative, stating that the school would pave the way for a brighter educational future of young girls in Manipur.

He urged everyone to contribute towards the noble cause of Nation-building and work collectively for a progressive and prosperous society.
