Imphal, January 27 2026:
A portion of the road infrastructure surrounding the Lamphel Traffic Point in Imphal West which is situated only some metres away from RIMS Hospital has deteriorated significantly, leading to severe inconveniences for commuters.
In addition to the poor condition of the road section, another troubling development has emerged along the stretch from Lamphel Traffic Point to RD Wing as this section of the road has become a dumping ground for waste.
The accumulation of garbage along the roadside has not only created a serious hygiene issue but has also led to a significant reduction in the effective width of the road.

Some individuals continue to disregard civic sense and dispose of garbage in public spaces as evident in different parts of Imphal city.
The Lamphel Traffic Point which is situated close to critical infrastructure, including the Lamphel Police Station, Nursing College, Medical Directorate, RIMS and various Government offices serves as a major node connecting Langol, Lamphel, Sanakeithel, and Thangmeiband.
However, the road infrastructure surrounding the Lamphel Traffic Point has not been repaired for a long time, resulting in numerous potholes and scattered stones, making it vulnerable to road accidents.
The situation is worsened by the dumping of garbage at the roadside leading to Lamphel Sanakeithel side near the traffic point.
As the garbage includes chicken feathers from poultry centers and rotten items from nearby shops, the stench from the accumulated waste forces people to cover their noses while passing through the area.
A group of people told The Sangai Express that the road infrastructure in the surrounding areas of the Lamphel Traffic Point has been in a poor state for a long time, despite ongoing road repairs and construction in other parts of the city.
Whenever road repair or construction projects are undertaken, the stretch around the Lamphel Traffic Point, despite its strategic importance, is always overlooked, they sighed.
They further mentioned that there have been several instances of road accidents while attempting to navigate the potholes.
People arriving in health emergencies at Shija Hospital and RIMS face serious inconvenience due to the poor condition of the road, they said and expressed a desire for the Government to repair the road.
On the other hand, they pointed out that a portion of roadside near the traffic point, on the left side when coming from Lamphel Sanakeithel, has been turned into a dumping ground.
People from various places often come late at night or early in the morning to dump waste at the area, they said and added that the accumulated garbage has grown over time, thereby narrowing the road.
They expressed a strong desire for the police to take action and arrest those caught dumping waste in public spaces.
