Imphal, October 26 2025:
Taking a sharp swipe at former Chief Minister N Biren Singh regarding his claim that the BJP has done many things what the Congress never could, Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar has questioned whether the Meetei community's inability to move beyond the valley districts was what the former Chief Minister implied when criticizing the Congress.
Addressing the foundation day celebration of Tangkham Youth Gym cum youth convention at Tangkham Ahanjao ground as chief guest today, Lokeshwar further stated that the BJP failing to form a Government despite having the necessary numbers to do so is another thing that the Congress could not do.
It is unfortunate for the former Chief Minister to arrogantly claim that the BJP has achieved what the Congress never could despite the prevailing situation in Manipur, he added.
Highlighting the ongoing crisis in Manipur, the Congress MLA emphasized that the situation remains dire, with people still unable to move freely across the State.
Lokeshwar further stated that the Congress party proposed enacting a law to protect those who took up arms to defend the State, but the ruling MLAs of the now-suspended Government never considered their suggestion.
The Congress MLA urged the Government to cease its crackdown on village volunteers.
Criticising the BJP-led Central Government for its inaction on incidents such as the assault on a Superintendent of Police in Kangpokpi, the attack on MSPDCL staff in Churachandpur, and the online threats against the Additional SP of Churachandpur, Lokeshwar urged the Government to stop granting unchecked authority in the hill districts while adopting a firmer approach in the valley districts.
