Jiribam, December 24 2008:
MPP president Dr L Chandramani has thrown a challenge to the Congress leaders for an open debate on the important issues of the State.
Talking to mediapersons ahead of an election campaign cum public meeting of MPP in connection with the upcoming by-election to Moirang Assembly Constituency at Kwakta Khuman today, Dr Chandramani said casting aspersions on the departed leaders instead of debating on issues like deteriorating law and order, meaningless development and territorial integrity of Manipur is bereft of po- litical ethics.
So if the leaders of the Congress party understand what is politics really, then they should be ready for an open debate on the important issues of the State.
It is a fact well known to the people that it was the Congress party which had forcefully included Manipur within the boundary of India after the British imperial power gave up its dominion over India and the Government led by such a party has not taken up any developmental works in Manipur.
After the destruction wrought to the existing economy of the Manipuri society and curtailment of rights of the people, the present Congress led Government has made Manipur into a lawless society.
On the other hand, with increased in the level of corruption, fratricidal killing are being encouraged.
Such dirty politics would never be able to bring about stability in the State.
It is because of the failure of the Congress led Government in ensuring civil gov- ernance and the numerous unjustified actions committed against the public that there is no peace and development in the State today.
Even if there are various legislations to suppress the activities of the terrorists in the country, there has been no such legislations that could save the people from the act of terrorism being perpetrated by the security forces which are supposed to protect the people.
Former Union Minister Th Chaoba, who was also present at the occasion, said the suspicion that the forthcoming by-election to the Moirang Assembly Constituency would not be a free and fair affairs can be gauged from the recent incident of convening an election meeting of the Congress party with the people of Kwakta by the Chief Minister at his official residence.
He also alleged that negligence of a historical place like Moirang in taking up developmental work in favour of his own Thoubal A/C has shown the partisan attitude of the Chief Minister.
Party MLAs like O Joy, Ibohalbi, RK Anand and Dr Ng Bijoy were also present at the occasion.
