Proposal to shut oil pumps put on hold

Imphal, December 22 2025: The proposed shut down of oil pumps after December 28 has been called off temporarily after the Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) talked with the State Government today.

Notably, the MPDF issued a statement on Sunday saying that they have been facing exorbitant monetary demands and bomb threats but there has been no positive response or action from the Government even though a memorandum was submitted to the Governor on December 10, 2025 .

The same statement said that all oil pumps may cease operations after one week if the State authority fails to initiate positive actions by December 28 .

On the invitation of the Government, MPDF representatives held talks with the State Government officials this morning.

During the meeting, the MPDF representatives highlighted that they have been facing exorbitant monetary demands and persistent threats.

They urged the Government officials to look into their predicament and take up necessary measures.

After listening to the MPDF representatives, the Government officials responded positively.

The Government officials also asked the MPDF representatives not to cause difficulties to the public by closing retail outlets operations in view of the festive season, sources said.

Following the Government's positive response and the request not to close retail outlets, the MPDF agreed to temporarily call off the proposed closure of oil pumps after December 28 .

The MPDF representatives have also appealed to the public not to indulge in panic buying of petrol and diesel.
