Security beefed up on Imphal-Ukhrul road

With the Shirui Lily Festival set to begin on May 20, security measures have been beefed up to ensure a smooth event.
A group of staff from various departments directly involved in hosting the festival have also reached the venues in Ukhrul.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, LL Tezii, Officerin-Charge of Litan police station, stated that adequate security arrangements have been made from Yaingangpokpi to Mahadev and from Mahadev to Litan.
He also said that a combined police team has been conducting combing operations in Kuki villages along the Imphal-Ukhrul road routinely to verify if any new individuals have arrived in these areas.
Saying that the Central and State forces have implemented tight security measures from Yaingangpokpi to Litan, the police officer maintained that additional security personnel might be deployed along the route starting from the first day of the festival.
Tezii said that six-seven companies of security personnel may be deployed along the route.
The Shirui Lily Festival is scheduled to take place from May 20 to May 24 across different venues in Ukhrul district.
He added that adequate Road Opening Party (ROP) teams will be deployed during the festival.
Additionally, the police officer said that they have conducted a test to determine the range of wireless communication in the hilly areas, ensuring they can request reinforcements when needed.
Apart from security personnel, Tangkhul volunteers will also assist tourists and help ensure their safety, he said.
