Imphal, August 17 2025:
The youths of Manipur shouldn't stay away from politics, but join it to transform and change the State for the better, James PK Sangma, working president of the National People's Party (NPP) National has said.
He said this while addressing a youth conclave at the premises of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Imphal.
During the programme, the NPP Manipur released its theme song and a documentary film.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma said, "It would be very wrong for the youths to stay away from politics.
The youths shouldn't think politics is dirty.
Instead, they must join politics and become good leaders who will bring about positive changes".
It is politics that will bring development and transform the society.
Therefore, the youths must take active part in it and become part of the process, Sangma said, adding parents must also encourage their children to take interest in politics.
Though it is small, Manipur is known all over the country for its cultural heritage, art and achievements in the field of sports.
The people shouldn't let some differences [among communities] damage such a State that is rich in diversity.
The youths should lead in resolving the challenges facing the State at present, Sangma said.
He lauded the National People's Youth Front, Manipur for organising the conclave, encouraging youths's active participation in politics.
The NPP wants to groom the youths of the State and give them a platform for them to become able leaders.
The party under its president Conrad Sangma is also taking up steps for welfare of the youths, he said.
NPP Manipur State president and former Deputy CM Yumnam Joykumar, Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti, Kakching AC MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar and several leaders of the NPP attended the event.
James PK Sangma launched "Manipur Young Leadership" fellowship programme.
