Imphal, May 16 2025:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has urged the Government and relevant authorities to ensure everyone's safety during the Shirui Lily Festival 2025 scheduled from May 20 to 24 in Ukhrul.
In a release, the Federation said that giving tough talk after a tragedy would be meaningless and urged the authorities to take up adequate security measures to ensure the safety of tourists.
The festival which is expected to draw participants from around the world, needs to be upgraded to an international-level event from next year onwards, it said.
Continuing that the Government should make public the extent of security arrangements made for the festival, FoH emphasized that it is the Government's responsibility to ensure attendees participate the festival without fear.
The Federation said that a Kuki group had issued threats to Meiteis, warning them not to enter or pass through "Kuki areas", but the Government had taken no action, raising suspicions.
It was the Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers-Eastern Zone (KZW-EZ) that issued the threat statement on May 11 although the police claimed no such group exists.
The Federation stated that Kuki terrorists had brutally killed many civilians during the ongoing crisis in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023.It also alleged that the Government of India has failed to take concrete actions against Kuki groups that dictate terms on the National Highway.
