Imphal, June 12 2025:
The Government has prohibited the use of laser lights, including laser pointers and shows, within a 10-kilometer radius of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to prevent pilot distraction and ensure flight safety.
The instruction came just a few hours after news of the Ahmedabad flight disaster went viral across the country.
Imphal West DC Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh ordered the prohibition, citing a June 11 meeting of the Airfield Environment Management Committee of Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
The DC appealed to residents of Imphal West, particularly those in Mongsangei, Sangaiprou, Ningombam, Malom Tuliyaima, Malom Tulihal, Mei-tram, Langthabal Lep, Ghari, Taobungkhok, Yarou Bamdiar, and Kodompokpi, to refrain from using laser lights.
He warned that anyone found violating the ban would face fines and legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Aircraft Rules 1937, and the Airport Authority of India Act, 1994 .
