In furthering their efforts to reach out to the people of Assam and to garner public support to the just started peace talks, the eight member ULFA leaders, who are camping in Delhi interacted with the Assamese Student Association, Delhi today.
Welcoming the peace process, over a hundred Assamese students had an interactive and informal time with the ULFA leaders.
Chairman of ULFA Arabinda Rajkhowa, who is widely known to keep a safe distance from the media and does not court publicity at all, addressed the student community.
Recounting the meeting with the Home Ministry officials yesterday, the Chairman informed the gathering that the Government of India as per assurance of the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram is ready to amend the Constitution if required.
Other leaders include Pranati Deka, Pradip Gogoi, Chitraban Hazarika, Sashadhar Choudhary, Mithinga Daimary, Binukant Borokohai and Raju Barua.
Regarding the Union Home Secretary GK Pillai's proposal at the meeting yesterday for setting up a 7 member coordination committee, that will comprise of two members from both the GOI and Assam Government with three ULFA members, foreign secretary Shashadhar Choudhary informed this correspondent "it will be work out soon".

He also added "at the moment nothing concrete is has been worked out as yet as we have only just start the talk process".
During the hour long interaction, Chairman Arabinda also sang a 'revolutionary Assamese number' for the students.
He told the youth that it is not ULFA's desire that the future generation be forced to take up arms as ULFA had been forced to.
The same was echoed by the other ULFA leaders addressing the youth stating that lack of development and struggle for basic human rights had led ULFA to take extreme steps.
The leaders also assured the students present at the meeting that ULFA had come to the negotiating table so that the next generation will not have to face what they had gone through.
The ULFA team reached Delhi yesterday and met the Union Home Minister.
