Imphal, September 09 2026:
Even when it is not raining, the Khwairamband Keithel area near Irawat Bhawan has remained inundated with water overflowing from clogged drainage for around 5 to 6 months.
Filthy and pungent, the stagnant water is becoming a health hazard, a nuisance and driving away customers, incurring losses to vendors and shops in the area.
The roads in the area are used daily by many including Government officials.
However, even after months, the clogged drainages have not been cleared by the authorities concerned, said a woman who sells snacks in the area.

The condition of the road and the surrounding is known to all including the Government and its officials.
However, despite repeated appeals, the authorities concerned have not dredged the drainages, she said.
As the roads are inundated with water, commuters are unable to see the potholes.
Many accidents have occurred and people are often fighting among themselves when vehicles splashes water on them, she said.
The woman also stressed that she is losing customers due to the situation.
"The water is very filthy and pungent.
Naturally, people want to avoid it.
People do not want to visit the shops in the area and buy goods, especially the food items," she said.
Another woman vendor stressed that the repeated appeals have been made to the Government and its authorities concerned to clear the drainages.
The area is waterlogged even when it is not raining.
During rains, the area is completely submerged by around 2 feet of water, she said.
The filthy water and the pungent smell are becoming a health hazard.
If not cleared soon, it may cause skin diseases and other health issues, she added, urging the Government to take immediate steps to unclog the drainage systems and drain the water.
