Imphal, July 08 2025:
Lok Sabha Member Dr Bimol Akoijam has stated that enforcing the ILP System just for name's sake will serve no purpose.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the 10th death anniversary of Lamjing Meira Sapam Robinhood at Lamjing Meira Ching (Awa Ching) today, Dr Bimol said it is imperative to check how effective is the ILP System being enforced in Manipur.
ILP System must be enforced in an effective and civilized manner.
At the same time, it should not deter tourists from visiting the State, he said.
Manipur is currently facing a huge demographic threat.
It would not be right to score political mileage out of the current situation, the Congress MP said.
He warned that it will be hard to protect Manipur if the ILP System is not enforced effectively.
The ILP System must be enforced properly and effectively after segregating foreigners from citizens, he said.
In order to save the numerically small indigenous communities of Manipur, it is imperative to identify all illegal immigrants and nonlocal people, he added.
The ILP was extended to Manipur after a long demand raised by the people.
