Police make formal arrest of fraud

Porompat police have made formal arrest of a fraud after being remanded in judicial custody in connection with an FIR case registered at Imphal police station for issuing fake appointment letters of various posts at RIMS to nearly 10 job seekers and collecting a sum of Rs 80 lakh approximately from them.
Accused Kongkham Pradeepkumar (36) s/o Muhindro of Thoubal Athokpam Khunou is a police Constable and he was produced before the Court of CJM, Imphal West yesterday after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for judicial custody remand by a team of Imphal police station.
An APP of the State submitted that KSA secretary publicity and grievances, Sinam James submitted a report at Imphal police station on June 17, 2025 about the fraudulent activities of the accused and the accused was found detained at KSA office on the same day.
Pradeepkumar was brought to Imphal police station for proper examination and verification.
During the police custody period, the accused disclosed that he is working as a Constable in Manipur Police and posted at Imphal police station and he is a long absentee.
He also disclosed that he had issued fake appointment letters for various posts at RIMS to nearly 10 job seekers and collected a sum of approximately 80 lakh from them.
Pradeepkumar also issued fake appointment letters for various posts of Manipur University to nearly seven job seekers and collected Rs 8 lakh from them.
The accused is a Computer Graduate and made fake appointment letters and other related documents by himself, Moreover, he collected many four-wheelers from gullible individuals by promising them new cars in exchange but till date neither the old four-wheelers have been returned nor new cars given.
The APP said that the accused also made a fake notification of Manipur Police Housing Corporation Limited by the name of SP Imphal East to convince gullible persons who wanted to exchange their old vehicles with new ones.
During the course of investigation, two victims submitted written reports regarding the case of issuing fake appointment letters for the post of LDC at RIMS and Manipur University.
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded Kongkham Pradeepkumar to judicial custody till July 14.In the meantime, a team of Porompat police station filed an application to make formal arrest of the accused in connection with a complaint for not delivering two four-wheeler vehicles even after the completion of payment on May 11 and May 19 respectively at Checkon Bazar.
The Court, on perusal of the application, allowed Porompat police station to make formal arrest of the accused.
