Stipulated date to complete work of MUC set on Aug 11

Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken has called on the authorities concerned to ensure the timely completion of the new campus of the Manipur University of Culture (MUC) at Wakha in Imphal.
The stipulated date to complete the project is August 11, 2026 .
Accompanied by officials of MUC, Kh Loken, who also holds the Tourism portfolio, inspected the ongoing construction work at the site this morning.
During the inspection, Loken emphasised the importance of meeting the deadline in project executions while maintaining high construction standards.

He directed engineers and contractors involved in the MUC project to ensure there is no compromise on quality.
Reflecting on the impact of the ongoing crisis in Manipur, which began on May 3, 2023, Loken remarked that the conflict has set the State back by 30 to 40 years.
He urged all stakeholders to work diligently and prevent any delay in the completion of developmental projects, assuring that the Government will provide all possible assistance.
The Manipur Minorities and Other Backward Classes Economic Development Society (MOBEDS) is the implementing agency of the MUC project, which has a total cost of Rs 31.18 crore.
Stating that Manipur is known for its rich art and culture, he expressed confidence that the MUC will continue to play a pivotal role in promoting the State's artistic heritage.
He stated that the construction of the MUC complex began on February 12, 2025, with a completion deadline set for August 11, 2026 .
Acknowledging that the ongoing crisis has significantly affected the implementation of developmental projects, he empha- sised that every effort must be made to ensure these projects are not disrupted and are completed within the stipulated timeframes.
The Minister also appealed to all groups and individuals to avoid creating any obstacles in the implementation of developmental initiatives.
Loken said that the Government will assess whether the road leading to the MUC, which is currently in poor condition, can be repaired before the monsoon season arrives.
The Minister further stated that Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will visit Manipur on April 8 .
Loken continued that he will submit a proposal to the Central leader for the implementation of new projects and schemes related to tourism and art and culture in Manipur.
He further stated that the Government is working to initiate the Loktak Express project, with an estimated cost of Rs 95 crore, as soon as possible.
The Minister was accompanied by MUC Vice Chancellor Paonam Gunindro, Registrar L Radhakanta and MOBEDS Member Secretary Yumnam Suraj among others.
