Imphal, September 21 2018:
Asserting that the State Government is inviting a massive civil movement when it unleashed brute force late last night on students and teachers of Manipur University, DESAM has demanded Chief Minister N Biren to state his position publicly with regard to the MU crisis.
Speaking to media persons at their Sagolband Meino Leirak office this afternoon, DESAM president Salam Akash decried that innumerable number of tear gas shells were fired inside MU campus last night.
After carrying violent search operations throughout the night in men's hostels, search operations were carried out in women's hostels this morning, he said.
Such excesses should be stopped immediately otherwise it would invite a massive civil uprising, he warned.
As per the MoA signed on August 16, Prof W Vishwanath and Prof Sh Dorendrajit are VC in-charge and Registrar in-charge respectively.
Moreover, Prof Dorendrajit is the nodal officer of the two-men independent enquiry committee, Salam Akash said.
He went on to ask why Prof Dorendrajit, the nodal officer of the enquiry committee has been arrested and why the VC in-charge (Prof K Yugindro) and Registrar in-charge (Prof M Shyamkesho) have been allowed to assume office even though their appointments were not admissible as per rules.
Given such arm-twisting tactics of the authority concerned, one would find it hard to put any faith in the ongoing enquiry against Prof Pandey.
The MoA signed before Chief Minister N Biren has been reduced to a farce.
At the same time, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has been deceiving not only the State Government and the people of Manipur but also the President of India, he decried.
The way Prof Yugindro was given charge of VC after he was appointed as Pro-VC without approval of MU's executive council is a blatant violation of rules.
Saying that two MU teachers born on the soil of Manipur have been following double standard with regard to the protected crisis, the DESAM president asked them to give up their double standard tactics immediately.
Decrying that unleashing brute force inside MU was an act of fascism and authoritarianism, he demanded immediate release of all the arrested students and teachers.
DESAM vice-president Nameirakpam Edison said MHRD has been humiliating the Chief Minister by violating the MoA signed in front of him.
However, the Chief Minister after being humiliated, turned MU into a battlefield by sending a large number of security forces instead of speaking a single word against MHRD, Edison said.
The MHRD's order that gives charge of VC to the Pro-VC who was appointed by VC Prof Pandey while on leave is a clear case of adopting double standard, he added.
