Imphal, August 18 2011:
The Gauhati High Court, Imphal bench has been closed for two days from yesterday following the decision of the High Court Bar Association, to suspend Court works due to the acute shortage of petrol and diesel.
The fuel shortage has been sparked by the ongoing blockade imposed by the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Commitee since August 1 .
Though some oil outlets at Imphal began selling fuel to the public on rationing system, the rush is so heavy that people have to stand in a long queue and kill nearly four to five hours to get a limited quantity of fuel from there.
Black marketeers have already started selling petrol at Rs 100 per litre.
The bar association decided to suspend Court works from yesterday, said a leader of the association and added that they would convene a meeting to discuss the matter on Tuesday.
Besides fuel, prices of essential commodities including certain vegetable items have also sky rocketed giving a big bow to the commoners.
