Expressing solidarity with the ongoing agitation launched by the 32 voluntary organizations for the removal of Disturbed Area Act and Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, members of the Transporter and Drivers Council in a meeting held today at the council's office at MG Avenue, resolved to suspend all its inter State services indefinitely from August 8.Talking to media-persons at the Council's office, Council's president H Ranjit said that truck owners as well as the Council members will extend all possible help to the people's agitation and added that the council will face and take on the might of the State Govt if it tries to force the truckers to resume service.
He also appealed to all the members of the council not to do anything without the permission of the council.
He also informed that buses, trucks, Mini Tata 407, Canters, Tata Sumo, Jeep Taxi, school buses, school Vans and Auto Rickshaws plying in the State would be observing a 24 hrs bandh from midnight of August 8 to 9.Condemning the brutal killing of Thangjam Manorama and pastor Jamkholet by personnel of Assam Rifles, Ranjit also strongly denounced the excessive use of force by State security personnel on the peaceful demonstrators.
