Imphal, June 21 2025:
The body of Ng-anthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam, one of the two crew members from the state who were killed in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, has been identified from DNA samples on Saturday, and her family members will bring her mortal remains body to Imphal on Sunday afternoon.
Lamnunthem Singson, the other flight attendant from Manipur killed in the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash, was also identified from DNA samples earlier and laid to rest in Kangpokpi district.
Following the official confirmation of Nganthoi's identity, all preparations have been made at Imphal International Airport to receive the body with utmost dignity and respect.
Authorities are working in close coordination to ensure a smooth and honourable reception upon Nganthoi's arrival on Sunday.
Preparations are also underway at Nganthoi's native place at Thoubal Awang Leikai in Thoubal district for a dignified reception and traditional rituals.
Nganthoi's family members will board a Delhi-bound flight from Ahmedabad at about 5:40 am on Sunday and will then fly to Imphal with the body, expected to land at Imphal International Airport at around 1:30 pm.
Nganthoi's uncle, Kongbrailatpam Sanatomba, told The People's Chronicle that Nganthoi's elder sister, Gitarani, first underwent DNA testing but was found to match only 30 per cent with Nganthoi's DNA.
Accordingly, the authorities concerned informed Nganthoi's parents to come to Ahmedabad for further DNA testing.
Due to health issues, Nganthoi's mother was unable to travel to Ahmedabad, but her blood sample was collected at RIMS Hospital.
Nganthoi's father, Nandeshkumar, along with her two other sisters, travelled to Ahmedabad on Friday for DNA testing, carrying the mother's blood sample, and reached the city in the afternoon.
At 5 pm on Friday, Nandeshkumar's blood sample was submitted for DNA testing, and the result received on Saturday afternoon confirmed Nganthoi's identity.
The state government and various organisations have fully prepared for the respectful reception of Nganthoi's body.
It is said that Nganthoi will be accorded state honours upon her arrival at Imphal International Airport.
