Imphal, August 14 2025:
Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Thursday released 'Mingou Khanglakpada Bhanumukhi', a novel written by Laishram Matum Singh, at Manipur Press Club, here.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Bimol called for translation works to be rooted in cultural context and for literature to remain central to society, while expressing that language is tied to traditions and ways of life, and writing reflects the inherent human freedom to express ideas.
Writing is a form of political action and activism, he said, noting that both writers and readers exercise freedom through literature.
The parliamentarian welcomed the emerging trends in language reform but cautioned against excessive changes, arguing that English remains essential for competing globally despite opposition from some right wing groups.
He stressed the need for strong existence of literary groups and added that literature and art are vital for a thriving society.
Dr Bimol further underscored the importance of literary festivals and children's literature competitions to nurture reading and writing culture.
The event was presided over by Manipuri Literary Society president Naorem Lokeshwore and attended by scriptwriter Moirangthem Inao as guest of honour.
Retired principal Dr Moirangthem Priyobrata also spoke about the novel.
