Imphal, May 13 2021: Chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar has been discharged from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Imphal on Thursday after he recovered from Covid-19 while BJP Manipur Pradesh president Prof Saikhom Tikendra succumbed to post-Covid complications.

The sixty-eight years old Tiken-dra passed away at Shija Hospitals here on Thursday.

Tikendra was admitted to JNIMS Hospital Covid ward on April 29 after he tested positive for Covid-19 .

A few days back, his test sample came negative but he remained in ICU due to complications related with Covid-19 infection.

As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Shija Hospitals on Thursday morning around 11 where he passed away late evening.

Extending solidarity to the bereaved family members of Prof Tikendra, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) informed in a statement that the BJP state chief breathed his last at 7:40 pm.

According to SHRI medical superintendent Dr S Jugindra, Prof Tikendra was admitted at Shija Hospitals on Thursday at 11:15 am.

On admission, he was unconscious and with very low BP of 80/40 mmHg.

He was on maximum doses of two medicines to raise blood pressure and he had not passed urine overnight.

He was rushed to the ICU where immediate dialysis was started and all necessary medications given.

Repeat test for Covid turned out positive.

Though all efforts were made he succumbed, the statement said, adding that he was referred to Shija after being treated at JNIMS from April 30 till Tuesday morning, it said.

Son of late Madhop of Nambol Sabal Leikai, Tikendra had a post graduate degree in philosophy.

He served as faculty member of Maharaja Bodhchandra College for 20 years and joined BJP in 1994 after taking voluntary retirement.

He remained as vice-president of BJP Manipur Pradesh from 1995 to 2000, 2000 to 2004 and 2009 to 2012 .

He also held various key posts like chairman of the party's state disciplinary action committee and chief spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh before getting appointed as the party president recently.

Meanwhile, RIMS media advisor N Phillip Singh informed that Dr Rajesh Kumar was admitted with Covid-19 Pneumonia which involved major part of the lungs.

After 24 days of medications, oxygen therapy at tapering flow and physiotherapy, he succeeded in coming out of the crisis.

He has been comfortable without oxygen support for the last 4 days, said the release adding that the weakness due to prolonged hospitalization is expected to be over quickly at home.

RIMS director Prof A Santa Singh thanked the doctors, nurses and other staff who had worked tirelessly to fight Covid-19 pandemic and urged the public to follow SOPs and Covid Appropriate Behaviour strictly, said the release.
