RIMS commemorates International Nurses Day

Nurses Association, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed International Nurses Day 2025 at the RIMS Jubilee Hall on Monday.
The event was organised under the global theme, "Our Nurses, Our Future - Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies", underscoring the crucial role nurses play not only in healthcare but also in promoting sustainable economic growth.
The function was attended by RIMS director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma as chief guest, hospital's medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh as guest of honour, and deputy director (administration) RK Mecolt Singh as functional president.
Chief accounts officer Sairem Sarat Singh, and chief nursing officer in-charge Ningombam Ibemhal were also present on the occasion.
In his address, Prof G Sunil lauded nurses as the backbone of healthcare and expressed deep appreciation for their tireless and compassionate service.
He said that this year's theme, "Our Nurses, Our Future", captures the diverse roles nurses perform as caregivers, educators, and leaders.
Acknowledging the unwavering commitment of RIMS nurses during crisis situation such as the COVID-19 pandemic and their contribution in rural outreach programmes, the director advocated for strong policies to support nursing education, ensure fair compensation, and promote career advancement.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the inaugural lamp and a floral tribute to Florence Nightingale, honouring her enduring legacy in the nursing profession.
The event was attended by nursing professionals, faculty members, students, and dignitaries from across the institute.
Cultural performances and a tribute to exemplary nursing service were also part of the celebration, which highlighted the vital role of nurses in transforming healthcare and strengthening health system and national economies.
