Army dog Kamana retires after 8 years of service to Nation

Imphal, September 11 2026: Army dog Kamana, an explosive detection canine warrior of the Red Shield Division, has retired after over eight years of exemplary service to the Nation.

Inducted after completing Explosive Detection training at RVC & C, Meerut, Kamana was posted to Manipur on September 2, 2018 .

She was deployed with various Infantry Battalions under Red Shield Division in the challenging counterinsurgency and internal security environment of Manipur.

She actively participated in Operation L Phaikot-I in June 2025, where her superior olfactory capability contributed significantly to detection of concealed IEDs and war-like stores, enhancing safety of troops and vital assets.

Throughout her service.

Kamana displayed exceptional courage, unwavering loyalty and steadfast devotion to duty.

Her ability to detect hidden threats made her a trusted member of operational teams operating in difficult conditions.

The Red Shield Division said her service stands as a testament to the courage, loyalty and professionalism of Military Working Dogs of the Indian Army.

Saluting her distinguished service, the Division wished her a peaceful and well-deserved retirement.
